The design of the entire system should be geared towards maximum energy efficiency. In powered roller conveyor systems try to design with the longest, straight runs possible. The number of drives should be kept minimum. In fact maybe you can power the full system with a single drive and employ efficient speed reducers.

Make sure that there are maintenance and downtime sessions in each day’s work schedule. By regularly shutting down the system and performing routine maintenance checks and preventative repairs you can actually improve dramatically on the up time of your conveyor system. On the contrary, an accidental breakdown or an unscheduled maintenance prove to be very expensive. When you prepare in advance for regular, short shutdowns the cost is minimal and the savings are immense.

A few handy tips and easy to follow patches are available which you can use in cases of emergency. When loads accumulate in one area of the conveyor the reasons can be many. Photo cells often pick up dirt or get obstructed. Check these with regular daily maintenance.

An abrupt shutdown of the conveyor is most often due to accidental operation of emergency stop buttons. Keep abreast of the latest technology and install upgrades for greatest efficiency when possible.

Recent technological developments have contributed towards improved performance of conveyor systems. Dynamic Zone Allocation in accumulation systems is but one example. This  allows the conveyor’s zone length to be automatically adjusted according to the length of the object in transit.  The result can be a significant increase in the throughput of product on the conveyor.  The system becomes flexible and capable of adjusting to any size of package, eliminating the requirement of a new conveyor installation each time there is a change in the production process.

Vibrating level switches – devices that hum like a tuning fork and give a constant means of monitoring solids levels  - have made great inroads in all production processes that employ a variety of solids, from powders to granules. They work by having a tubular rod, construction, within which is mounted a second rod.The harmonic vibration between the two rods is driven and monitored by piezo crystals. When the rod is covered (i.e. when the desired level has been reached) the frequency and amplitude is damped and that change is detected by the piezo drive and signalled to the control centre.

If your process involves liquids handling, especially dangerous or hazardous liquids, there’s a high tech solution there too.  Radar level transmitters for non-contact level indication will provide level measurement on almost any liquid whether in storage or during processing second-by- second.   Radar level transmitters are non-contact, making them versatile and extremely reliable.They’re ideal for use in liquids that would be too hot or too corrosive to measure by direct contact, like molten metals or acids, and because they don’t physically make contact with the liquid they are also very hygienic. And great for purified water vessels of monitoring levels in desalination plants to accommodate demand.

As an example of how versatile they are, it’s worth considering that there are two kinds of narrow access problems that scissor lifts are the solution for.  One type is where there is only narrow access vertically-the kind that would stop a boom lift from being able to get into the space.  The other type could be a situation where there is plenty of room inside the building to operate and manouevre the lift, but to get inside the building involves transporting the lift through a narrow access doorway.

Even the very largest scissor lifts will shrink to the sort of size that will pass through any standard doorway.  A lot of thought has gone into the design of scissor lifts, so you will also find other features such as non-marking tires.  These ensure that if the lift has to drive across an easily damaged surface no damage will be caused by the lift.

Some scissor lifts have a system called on board diagnostics.  If the lift is in use and the platform is raised the operator can diagnose and hopefully fix the problem from the raised platform, without having to retract the lift.

The piece you are working with is stabilized and secured by a work rest blade. The work blades are located in the middle of two other pieces.  The workblade is in the middle of a stone grinding wheel which spins at high rates, and what is usually referred to as a regulating wheel. The feed wheel revolves at a slower rate than the grinding wheel turns at. The regulating wheel also revolves within a more confined diameter than the grinding wheel does.

By now the method of centerless grinding has become a more solid. Centerless grinding can be the most efficient operation to remove huge amounts of material from components in a quick amount of time. Like everything else associated with the plastics industry, the answer is yes and no. Yes, because the plastics field is growing all the time and skilled designers are in high demand and low supply.

No, because the field is so competitive on a global scale. In this electronic age the designer does not even need to be in the same country as the mold maker. I had this experience at one shop; the designer was in Canada and we were in the USA. It worked well, but required considerable phone time on the part of the project manager.
