The Ever Changing Face Of Architectural Design
August 29, 2008 |
For some architects even today there is no getting away from the drawing board and the art of this ancient profession.
Much of the general public still have the image of the architect on his drawing board, working on a blueprint. Or the intern crouched in a corner working on a scale model of the proposed architectural building.
But the reality of life is very different as the software houses such as Autodesk strive to introduce ever more complex software to meet the perceived (and real) needs of the Industry.
Traditionally the industry has been very slow to change and even those practices that have a vision of what the modern crop of software can bring to the table are still struggling with the implementation.
The software houses almost believe their own hype that moving forward is nothing more than a simple upgrade when nothing could be further from the truth. What about the cost of new hardware, or the cost of re-training the users, or the cost of the down turn in productivity that in turn could lead to punitive costs if the project does not come in on time.
And what about the cost of changing long used quality processes that have been honed to perfection over many years.
To all the software houses out there, you need to walk in your users shoes to properly understand the impact of a simple upgrade.
