Flat Panel Monitors
August 27, 2008 |
Are you still using an old crt monitor with your Cad workstation? If so it may be time for a change.
Some designers will be hanging on to their old crt screens for grim death still arguing about colour definition and quality of the display but the reality is that the modern crop of flat screens are massively ahead of where they were only a couple of years ago.
And even then the flat screen displays were still far better than the degraded images that some of the older crt monitors were putting out. I even remember having to supply a client one of each as the main designer insisted (and I did try to gently persuade him otherwise) on a crt monitor.
It was amusing to get a phone call a few days later asking if we could exchange it for another flat panel one.
Flat panel monitors are also more environmentally friendly as they use far less power than their old crt counterparts, so if you still have one of those monsters sat on your desk have another look at flat panel monitors and do the environment a favour.

Ohh tell me about it. I’m still using the Viewsonic 19″ CRT I bought for my CAD/graphics workstation something like 10 years ago. It still looks just fine and works for everything, but my desk is starting to bow under the weight. I also really want a widescreen monitor, which necessitates the move to a flat panel.
